Michael Linder has represented Kane County Board District 13 since December 2022. District 13 is comprised of more than 22,000 residents and almost 14,000 registered voters in most of the westside of Saint Charles, some western precincts in Geneva and a very small number of voters in Campton Township.  A map of the district appears elsewhere on this site. His 7current term expires at the end of November, ,2026. That sounds like a long time from now, but Mail and Early Voting for the March 17, 2026 Primary Election start on February 5.

The petitions are in and the ballot set. At the County level, there are contested races for Sheriff, County Clerk, and Treasurer on the Democratic side.  At the County Board Level There are contests in 4 of the odd-numbered districts, and four candidates have filed for the one year spot to replace Board Member Dale Berman who passed away after an extended illness.  That election to fill the two year term will take place whether the post is temporarily filled in the meantime or not.

Four Democratic County Board seats, including my own, will have challenges in the 2026 Primary Election.  In my opinion all four of us have been credible members supporting our constants well.  I feel it is a sign of a problem with party unity when a third or the incumbents are challenged. No incumbent is due reelection just for their incumbency.  But when a candidate has fulfilled their obligations of office, upheld the ideals of the Democratic Party and been responsive to constituents, there is little reason to challenge.  So be it.  All four of us will need to spend funds to secure a spot on the ballot in the fall, funds that would be better spent on that General Election, not the Primary.

I am happy to have had a number of volunteers passing petitions on my behalf, and I will attempt to assemble a team of volunteers for door-knocking as well as phone banking.  My signs are going out as of today-it seems early, ahead of the Holidays-but with voting starting in early February, and will colder weather making it difficult to get signs in the ground, it is time.
